    Student Worker - Newcomb Department of Music

    Position Summary

    The Student Worker provides general administrative and operational support to the Newcomb Department of Music. This position assists department faculty and staff with a variety of tasks related to office operations, programs, events, communications, and departmental activities.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Provide general clerical and administrative support to the department.
    • Assist with filing, copying, scanning, data entry, and maintaining departmental records.
    • Answer phones, respond to routine inquiries, and direct questions to appropriate faculty or staff.
    • Assist with departmental mail, deliveries, and distribution of materials.
    • Provide support for department events, concerts, recitals, performances, auditions, and other activities.
    • Assist with preparing rooms, materials, equipment, and other items for departmental events and activities.
    • Help maintain organized and professional departmental office and common areas.
    • Assist with departmental communications, including preparing materials, distributing announcements, and updating information as directed.
    • Enter and maintain information in departmental databases, spreadsheets, and other systems.
    • Provide assistance with special projects and other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications

    • Current Tulane University student.
    • Ability to work independently and follow instructions.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Dependable, punctual, and able to work professionally with faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Interest or experience in music, the performing arts, arts administration, or related fields.
    • Previous office, customer service, event, or administrative experience.
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or similar software.

    Physical Requirements

    The position may require standing, walking, lifting and moving light materials or equipment, and assisting with the setup and breakdown of departmental events.

    Work Environment

    Work is performed primarily in departmental offices and music facilities and may occasionally include work in performance, rehearsal, classroom, or event spaces.

    Other Duties

    This position may perform other related duties as assigned to support the operations and activities of the Newcomb Department of Music.
