    Job Description

    Summary 

    Under the supervision of Dr. Ben Weston, Chief Health Policy Advisor for Milwaukee County, provide research, policy, communications, and project support to inform and address issues affecting the health and well-being of nearly one million residents and visitors of Milwaukee County.

    The Health Policy Analyst supports the development of evidence-based health policy by reviewing and synthesizing research and public health data; preparing informational products for policy development, social media, public messaging, and community outreach; and collaborating with Milwaukee County departments and community partners to advance public health priorities.

     

    Primary Responsibilities  

    • Review published literature and research topics as requested to help develop policy briefs, topic summaries, or other needed informational products to be used for policy development, departmental advising, or public messaging

    • Identify and analyze data and/or credible information to inform policy recommendations

    • Assist in research and preparation of information to inform and educate the community on health matters

    • Assist in translating complex health and scientific information into clear and accessible public health messaging across a variety of communication platforms, including social media, presentations, and other public-facing materials.

    • Monitor emerging public health issues, research, and trends relevant to Milwaukee County and its residents.

    • Assist in the development of evidence-based content for social media, public awareness campaigns, and other community education initiatives.

    • Analyze and summarize public health data to identify trends and inform policy, programs, and public health initiatives.

    • Collaborate with County and community leaders on health promotion messaging and activities

    • As requested and available, participate in meetings to discuss above-outlined deliverables

    • As requested and available, participate in meetings with County and community stakeholders

     

    Knowledge – Skills – Abilities 

    Knowledge of data interpretation and analyses, evaluation of published literature, documentation, and records management.

    Additional skills required: data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, strong writing and communication skills, and the ability to communicate scientific and public health information effectively across multiple media/social media platforms.

     

    Qualifications 

    Appropriate experience may be substituted for education an on equivalent basis.

     

    Minimum Required Education:        Enrolled in college 

    Minimum Required Experience:   No experience  

    Preferred Education:     Advanced degree or enrollment in advanced degree program in relevant field preferred
    Preferred Experience:     Research or policy experience preferred
     

    Physical Requirements 

    Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously. 

     

    Work Environment 

    Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment. 

     

    Sensory Acuity 

    Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication . May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
