Position Summary

We are seeking an adaptable, reliable, and dynamic Substitute Teacher to maintain a seamless, high-quality learning environment in the absence of regular classroom teachers across various elementary grade levels and subjects. The ideal candidate will maintain a positive and student-centered classroom, execute prepared lesson plans with fidelity, manage student behavior using positive and supportive strategies, and foster a safe, respectful space for young learners.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Associate Degree or higher in any field from an accredited college/university; OR current enrollment in an approved educator preparation program with junior status (60+ credits) and at least 20 years of age. (Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field preferred).

• Licensure: Holds or qualifies for a Wisconsin Short-Term Substitute Permit or standard Educator License (includes completion of a DPI-approved substitute teacher training program if applicable).

• Communication Skills:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills to deliver clear instructions to students and leave detailed feedback for the permanent teacher.

• Pleasant interpersonal skills to build rapport quickly with young people, school staff, and administration.

• Ability to communicate positively and maintain a calm, professional demeanor in dynamic classroom settings.

• Operational & Professional Skills:

• Exceptional flexibility and adaptability to step into different grade levels, subjects, and classroom cultures on short notice.

• Ability to follow written lesson plans and verbal administrative directions accurately.

• Strong organizational skills to manage classroom details, maintain daily schedules, and keep track of student attendance.

• General knowledge of standard classroom equipment and educational technology (e.g., interactive display boards, learning management systems).

• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records, accommodations, and classroom incidents.

• Ability to process, apply, and respond appropriately to feedback from school administrators and staff.

• Role Modeling:

• Serve as a positive, dependable role model for students and coworkers in conduct, responsibility, and professional ethics.

• Help reinforce positive social-emotional habits, respect, and democratic values as developmentally applicable.

• Other: Additional duties such as recess, lunchroom, or hallway supervision may be assigned as needed during the school day.

Classroom Management & Culture

• Maintain a nurturing, organized, and safe classroom environment conducive to learning, even during routine changes.

• Foster an orderly, welcoming atmosphere rooted in mutual respect, trauma-informed principles, and positive behavior support.

• Execute the regular classroom teacher''s established rules, routines, and behavioral expectations to maintain consistency for students.

• Utilize supportive accountability measures that guide student behavior constructively rather than penalizing students unfairly.

• Supervise student behavior actively in the classroom, hallways, and during non-instructional periods (e.g., recess, lunch) to ensure safety.

• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, facilities, and school property.

Instruction & Professional Execution

• Lesson Delivery: Implement daily lesson plans, activities, and schedules provided by the regular teacher with fidelity and enthusiasm.

• Instructional Variety: Utilize age-appropriate instructional strategies (e.g., read-alouds, small group work, hands-on tasks) to keep students engaged and on task.

• Differentiation & Support: Facilitate instructional support and provide accommodations for students with diverse learning needs or individualized plans (IEPs/504s) as outlined in the teacher''s sub plans.

• Time Management: Manage instructional time efficiently to cover required lessons and complete daily objectives smoothly.

• Reporting & Feedback: Complete clear, detailed end-of-day sub notes for the regular teacher summarizing lesson completion, student participation, attendance, and any behavioral or notable incidents.

• Mission Alignment: Support the district's mission and school culture through daily interactions, professionalism, and positive student engagement.
