Young people at our client's residential education and career-training campus are working hard to build futures — and for some of them, substance use is the single biggest barrier standing between where they are and the careers they're training for. We're looking for a licensed or certified substance abuse counselor to be that difference: three days a week, on a beautiful campus in the western North Carolina mountains near Franklin.
This is an ideal role for a counselor in private practice looking for steady part-time contract income, a recently retired clinician who wants meaningful work without a full-time load, or an LCAS/CADC professional who simply believes in second chances for young adults.
Our client operates a federally funded residential education and vocational training campus serving young people ages 16–24 who are earning their high school diploma or GED and learning skilled trades. You would join the campus Health & Wellness team as its substance abuse counselor, working alongside the nurse, mental health consultant, and physician. Delectus, a certified NC-based woman-owned staffing and workforce solutions firm, is the employer of record for this federal contract position. Full client and program details are shared with qualified candidates during screening.
Conduct substance use assessments for applicants, new students, and staff referrals, and develop individualized treatment plans
Provide short-term, evidence-based interventions and case management focused on retention and removing employability barriers
Respond to substance-related crises during scheduled hours and coordinate referrals to outside treatment when needed
Lead prevention education — a one-hour session for each group of new students and at least three center-wide prevention activities per year
Collaborate with the mental health consultant and wellness team on students with co-occurring conditions
Document assessments, treatment, and student interactions in the student health record in line with HIPAA and federal program requirements
Required:
Active, unrestricted North Carolina substance abuse credential — LCAS or CADC (NCSAPPB)
Experience providing substance use assessment and treatment to adolescents and/or young adults
Ability to work on-site in the Franklin, NC area on the fixed Wednesday–Friday schedule
Willingness to complete a criminal background check and drug screening (required for all staff serving students on campus)
Preferred:
Experience in school-based, residential, or youth-serving programs
Familiarity with electronic health record documentation and federal program compliance
$30.00/hour base wage — above the federal Service Contract Act rate for this position
$5.55/hour health & welfare benefit paid on every hour worked (an effective $35.55/hour)
Paid federal holidays and vacation accrual per the Service Contract Act
Professional liability insurance maintained for the engagement
No nights, no weekends, no on-call — Government-furnished office, equipment, and supplies on campus
Email your resume and a copy of your NC credential to Tonya Greene at tgreene@delectus.us or call (800) 808-3339. We are reviewing candidates immediately and will respond within one business day.
