Substance Abuse Specialist (CASAC) - ACT Team

A health services network in New York City is currently seeking a CASAC to join their Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team in Queens as a Substance Abuse Specialist.

About the Opportunity:

• Schedule: Monday to Friday
• Hours: 9am to 5pm
• Setting: Hybrid (3 days of fieldwork; 2 days remote)

Responsibilities:

• Conduct substance use assessments and determine appropriate treatment needs
• Provide individual counseling using evidence-based approaches, including motivational interviewing, harm reduction, relapse prevention, and stage-wise treatment methods
• Integrate substance use services with mental health care as part of a multidisciplinary ACT team
• Coordinate referrals and connect clients with external treatment providers and community recovery resources
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation and participate in team meetings, care coordination, outreach, and crisis intervention

Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of experience working with individuals with serious mental illness and substance use disorders
• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field
• CASAC certification or licensure
• Knowledge of substance use treatment, co-occurring disorders, recovery models, harm reduction, and evidence-based interventions
• Strong communication, counseling, engagement, and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team

Desired Skills:

• Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
• Bilingual (preferably Spanish)
• Experience in an ACT team, community mental health, integrated care, or intensive community-based treatment setting.
• Experience with electronic health records
