Substation Physical Designer

Job Description
- Lead physical substation design efforts for projects ranging from 69kV through 500kV+
- Develop complete physical design packages including general arrangement drawings, plans, elevations, sections, and equipment layouts
- Produce grounding plans, conduit layouts, cable trench designs, and station layouts
- Coordinate equipment placement and electrical clearances to meet utility and client standards
- Support design development from conceptual engineering through construction support
- Partner with Protection & Control, Civil, Structural, Transmission Line, and Project Management teams
- Review vendor drawings and integrate manufacturer requirements into final deliverables
- Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure design accuracy and compliance
- Support field activities including RFIs, drawing revisions, and issue resolution during construction
- Mentor junior designers and support technical development across project teams
- Maintain schedules and communicate design status across multiple active projects

The Successful Applicant
- 7+ years of physical substation design experience within utility, consulting, EPC, or power delivery environments
- Experience supporting substations from 69kV through 500kV+
- Strong understanding of substation equipment including transformers, breakers, disconnect switches, bus systems, grounding systems, and station layouts
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation
- Ability to interpret utility standards, engineering drawings, and construction documentation
- Experience managing design deliverables independently across multiple projects
