We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Substation Planner III to join our team at K&A Power Group in Greenville, SC. Role Expectations:
- Plan and schedule all activities associated with substation construction and maintenance projects.
- Develop and define project construction plans and work execution strategies.
- Plan and sequence complex construction and maintenance activities, including:
- Equipment outage sequencing
- Temporary facility installations
- Clearance and switching requirements
- Lead planning and scheduling discussions for projects of varying complexity.
- Coordinate activities with Transmission, Distribution, Generation, Engineering, and Project Management teams.
- Review and critique isolation procedures and project sequencing plans.
- Provide peer-level technical support for substation maintenance and construction work.
- Evaluate and identify clearance boundary requirements and associated risks.
- Support outage requests, clearance requests, hot-line tags, and switching/tagging processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues impacting project execution.
- Utilize engineering drawings, procedures, and equipment databases to support planning activities.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Lead planning efforts and support other planners within the organization.
- Develop procedures and detailed work plans that enable safe and error-free execution.
- Coordinate with leadership and field personnel to ensure successful project delivery.
- Maintain focus and lead teams effectively under pressure and during complex operational situations.
- Demonstrate and promote exemplary safety behaviors and safe work practices.
- Ensure all planned work complies with applicable safety procedures and operational requirements.
- Support NERC compliance through accurate documentation and timely completion of required activities.
- Identify, communicate, and mitigate operational risks associated with construction and maintenance work.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, files, and records.
- Ensure required paperwork is completed and submitted on time.
- Utilize Microsoft Office and related systems to support planning and reporting activities.
- Travel to project sites as required using a personal vehicle (mileage reimbursed).
What we’re looking for:
- Minimum 10 years of experience performing transmission line and/or substation maintenance, construction, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, or operations work.
- Experience planning and coordinating substation maintenance and/or construction activities.
- Hands-on experience working in and around electrical substations.
- Proven ability to independently plan and schedule complex maintenance and construction activities.
- Strong knowledge of substation equipment, including: Power transformers, Voltage regulators, Circuit breakers, Disconnect switches, Instrument transformers, Bus systems, Related substation apparatus
- Knowledge of above-grade and below-grade substation facilities and structures.
- Understanding of equipment installation, maintenance, operation, commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of outage planning, switching and tagging processes, and clearance management.
- Familiarity with engineering drawings and equipment database systems.
- Ability to read and interpret: Technical drawings, Construction documents, Procedures, Clearance documentation
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Demonstrated leadership and team coordination skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Pay Range $40—$46/hour
