Role Description

The Substation Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, execution, and closeout of electrical substation construction projects. This role manages project scope, schedule, budget, safety, quality, and client coordination while leading internal teams and subcontractors to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.

This is a hands-on, execution-focused role requiring strong utility experience, field leadership, and coordination with owners, engineers, inspectors, and crews.


Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Execution

Manage substation construction projects from award through closeout
Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and work plans
Coordinate procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractors
Lead project kickoffs, progress meetings, and closeout meetings
Ensure scope alignment with contract documents and drawings
Field & Team Leadership

Work closely with superintendents, foremen, and field crews
Provide direction and support to project engineers and coordinators
Resolve field issues, constructability challenges, and schedule conflicts
Maintain strong communication between field and office teams
Qualifications

Required

3+ years of project management experience in substation, utility, or heavy electrical construction
Strong understanding of substation construction practices and sequencing
Experience managing schedules, budgets, and field operations
Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and contracts
Strong communication and leadership skills
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites
