    Description

    PURPOSE STATEMENT

    On an on-call/substitute basis, this position will perform related duties of a teacher to provide continuity in the day-to-day responsibilities during the absence of the regular teacher.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Manage classroom and provide instruction according to lesson plans as prepared by the classroom teacher.
    • Provide classroom environment which promotes active learning.
    • Assist the teacher with all aspects of the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, keeping attendance records, lunchroom duty, recess, etc.
    • Work with students to help reinforce learning objectives.
    • Adhere to all Walla Walla Public Schools board policies and procedures.
    • Use appropriate judgment to act in the best interest of students at all times.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    Reports to the Building Administrator.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience

    • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate.
    • Experience working with children preferred.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge and skill in instructional principles, methods and techniques.
    • Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students.
    • Skill in classroom management, student discipline and developing positive techniques for improving student behavior.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive effective working relationships with a variety of students, staff, and community in a multicultural and diverse socio-economic setting.
    • Ability to serve as a role model and treat students as individuals in a professional manner.
    • Ability to communicate effectively using both English and Spanish, to include reading, writing, and speaking.

    Licenses/Special Requirements

    • Completed Employment Application/ Background Check.
    • Must complete Walla Walla Public Schools Risk Management and Bloodborne Pathogens Training upon hire.
