JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Substitute Bus Driver

RATE: $21.89/hr

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Properly classified drivers license
• Suitable physical condition as certified by a physician
• Evidence of freedom from tuberculosis
• Age 21 or older
• Obtain a School Bus Drivers' Permit as issued by the Illinois Office of Education if driving a vehicle holding ten or more passengers
• Must successfully complete the School Bus Driver Preparation Program as set forth by the I.O.E. including first aid certificate.
• Attend Driver Training Refresher Course annually.
• Have at least three years automobile driving experience free from:
• Conviction of reckless driving
• Revocation of driver's license
• Unsatisfied judgment as the result of an accident

REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation

JOB GOAL: To transport students safely and efficiently from points of departure to points of destination.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL):

• Obeys all traffic laws
• Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses
• Maintains discipline when students are on bus
• Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority
• Keeps assigned bus clean
• Drives an assigned bus on a regularly scheduled route
• Checks bus before each operation for mechanical defects
• Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness
• Discharges students only at authorized stops
• Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips
• Transports only authorized students
• Reports all accidents and complete required reports
• Enforces regulations against smoking, eating, or drinking on the bus
• Perform all other duties necessary to the position and such other duties as may be fixed by the transportation Supervisor
