THE CENTER

The Flance Early Learning Center provides excellence by educating and nurturing young children, supporting families, and strengthening community. An integral part of our mission and practice is to develop partnerships with families and community organizations that prepare and empower children to embrace learning, a strong sense of self, and social connection as essential tools for growth, achievement and kindergarten success.

 

Overall Responsibility

Substitute Classroom Executives educate and nurture in a classroom setting. Beyond teaching, they are responsible for care related to the safety, health, and hygiene of children at Flance. Substitute Classroom Executives are expected to be active members of Flance by contributing to staff meetings, attending parent meetings and staying current in the field of early childhood education through their own professional growth.

  • Build warm, respectful, and responsive relationships with children
  • Support children's social and emotional development through positive guidance and encouragement
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment
  • Supervise children at all times to ensure safety and well-being
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with lead teachers, administrators, and support staff
  • Report concerns regarding children's behavior, health, or development to the lead teacher or director

Implementation

  • Actively assists with daily activities for children that is consistent with Flance's mission, Flance's Core Values as well as Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies including setting individual and group goals on a regular basis
  • Maintains a safe, healthy and clean classroom environment in accordance withFlance policies, licensing and other regulations and best practices
  • Creates continuity for children and families by participating in daily check-ins and information sharing with Classroom Executive(s), supervisor(s) and others, as appropriate
  • Assists Flance with additional tasks, as requested, to ensure sustained excellence to children.
  • Implement lesson plans and daily schedules as provided by the lead teacher or center administration
  • Carry out classroom activities that support children's cognitive, physical, and developmental growth
  • Assist children with daily routines including meals, rest time, toileting/diapering, and transitions
  • Follow center policies, procedures, and licensing regulations
  • Ensure health and safety practices are followed at all times

 

Planning

  • Manages classroom (inside and out) using appropriate materials, interacts on a child-level interaction (floor, table), practices consistent routines and transitions by creating predictable structure for children and Conscious Discipline supportive techniques
  • Professional development - Maintains 15 or more continuing education hours per year
  • Assists Flance with additional tasks, as requested, to ensure sustained excellence to children.
  • Prepare materials and learning spaces as directed by the lead teacher
  • Observe children's engagement and participation during activities
  • Document and communicate observations, incidents, or concerns to the lead teacher or director
  • Provide feedback to staff to support continuity of care and instruction

 

 

Skills and Attributes

  • Accepts direction and coaching in a constructive manner, able to learn about oneself and how it impacts teaching; open to learning new techniques and changing as necessary

  • Plans, organizes and adapts programs to various age groups
  • Must have CPR and First Aid training/certification
  • Certified in safe sleeping training, Missouri milestones mattertraining, health and safety training, and caring for vulnerable children training.

Environmental Factors

Substitute Classroom Executives primarily work in the classroom and outdoor play areas. Noise and activity levels can be high; children require constant supervision and cooperation by teachers. Position requires a health screen, TB test, Hepatitis A vaccinations and annual background check (includes fingerprinting). Flance Center is a busy, unique environment. Employees are expected to participate fully in the life of the Center. Because of the constant interaction with children, must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs. and be active in the classroom and outdoors (including sitting on the floor, standing for long periods, squatting, bending, stooping, moving about quickly, etc.)

 

Education/Experience

  • CDA or 6 credit hours in early childhood education arerequired.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate or equivalent
  • Knowledge of behavior management and Developmentally Appropriate Practices
  • Specific knowledge or experience working with infants/toddlers or preschool children, depending on the classroom
