The Crossing Guard

A sworn special traffic constable in the Town of Seekonk, the Crossing Guard is responsible for directing traffic at assigned crossings to protect school children and provide for orderly movement of traffic.
### Reports to Director of Transportation
Responsibilities & Essential Functions

The Crossing Guards responsibilities and essential functions include:
- Reporting directly to the assigned location on time and remaining there until the conclusion of the assignment.
- Directing traffic per assigned location in accordance with their training provided by the Seekonk Police Department.
- Ensuring that children use proper crossing locations and that no children are in the street while traffic is moving.
- Being alert for present or potential traffic hazards in the area surrounding the assigned crossing.
- Submitting to the operations coordinator a written report of any hazards and recommendations if any to remedy the hazard.
### Additional Guidelines
- The Crossing Guard shall not transport school children other than those belonging to themselves.
- If a Crossing Guard is unable to report to their assigned crossing in the morning for whatever reason, they are to contact their supervisor.
- If unable to reach their supervisor, they must report their absence to the dispatcher at the police station.
- Crossing Guards shall not switch crossing assignments without authorization.
- Crossing Guards shall adhere to the uniform policy at all times while at the assigned crossings.
- Other duties as assigned.
