Description: Benefits Questions Position Join our team at Renton Technical College as a Substitute Custodian I! Our custodial team plays a vital role in providing students, staff, and the community with a safe and healthy educational environment. As substitute custodian, you will be a hourly, on-call team member for the swing shift. You will receive calls from the Custodial Team on an as-needed basis when coverage is required. The standard hours for swing shift is between 3:30pm-12:00am, Monday to Friday. You will be asked to provide coverage between those hours at any given time. This position is represented by the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) Classified Union at RTC. The pay range for this position is $20.90 hourly. Please view additional information regarding union benefits in the Collective Bargaining Agreement. This position will remain open and act as a substitute pool for the custodial team.

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

• Maintain general cleanliness of interior and exterior of the facility. This includes working effectively independently and in a team atmosphere to accomplish assigned tasks. • Maintain floors, walls and windows in assigned buildings. Collect, transport and properly dispose of all trash and recycling as assigned. • Clean, disinfect and restock restrooms and locker rooms. • Clean and sanitize food prep and service areas. • Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as required. • Report mechanical malfunctions and damage or hazards to buildings and grounds to Custodial Supervisor • Shovel snow from entrances, stairs and walkways. Spread de-ice as needed. • Replace and recycle all lamps (fluorescent/bulbs, etc.) and batteries as needed. • Maintain two-way communication at all times when on duty. • Open and secure buildings as assigned by the Custodial Supervisor. • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the general public. • Empty outside trash receptacles as assigned. • Pick up litter inside and outside from sidewalks, walkways, stairwells, planted areas, and other common areas daily.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Experience with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment. • Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb a ladder to heights of 25 feet, and be on your feet for the duration of shift. • One year of work experience in the cleaning industry. • Current Grade IV Boiler Operator license or higher upon hire is preferred. • Interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team. • Ability to work effectively with individuals whose first language is not English. • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, students, staff and the general public. • Demonstrated competencies to organize, set priorities, attend to details, and follow tasks through to completion. • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy. • Ability to speak a regionally top spoken language other than English is preferred (Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Somali, and Chinese).

Working Conditions: The swing shift hours are Monday - Friday, 3:30 pm to 12:00 am, Monday through Friday. As substitute custodian, you will be a hourly, on-call team member for the swing shift. You will receive calls from the Custodial Team on an as-needed basis when coverage is required.
