    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    Deliver instruction, provide support to staff/students, and perform related job duties/responsibilities during the absence of the regular employee

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Certification Requirements

    • High school graduate or GED equivalent, or
    • Minimum of 60 college hours (preferred), or
    • Bachelor''s degree (preferred), or
    • Teaching certification (preferred)
    • Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check
    • Valid LVN/RN license (School Nurse Substitute only)
    • Valid Administrator Certification (Campus Administrator Substitute only)
    • Valid Counselor Certification (Counselor Substitute only)

    Special Knowledge and Skills

    • Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of students in a professional manner
    • Ability to effectively deliver lesson plan while maintaining classroom management
    • Ability to follow oral and written instructions with limited supervision
    • Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in the school environment
    • Ability to work as a member of a team to provide assistance to campus and staff

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    • Conduct instructional activities outlined by teacher
    • Maintain regular classroom schedule
    • Follow district guidelines in maintaining classroom management, discipline and confidentiality
    • Support mission of school district by serving as a positive role model for students
    • Perform other duties as assigned, based on department needs
    • Must complete designated district technology proficiencies each year
    • Requires a basic knowledge of technology/computer skills
    • Ability to use personal computer to access district programs, emails, and other resources
    • Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appearance
    • Ensure compliance with the Texas Educator's Code of Ethics

    Qualities of an Effective Substitute Teacher

    • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations, including attendance, punctuality and confidentiality
    • Use effective communication skills with district personnel
    • Punctuality and dependability are essential functions of the job

    • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Supervision and evaluation of district personnel is not a requirement of the position; however, the supervision of students is required.

    Equipment Used:

    • Office equipment - personal computer, printer, calculator, multi-line telephone, software programs and peripherals, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position
    • Communication equipment - radio communication equipment, cellular telephone
    • Video monitoring equipment

    Mental Demands:

    • Ability to read, concentrate, communicate (verbally and written), interpret, reason, understand verbal instructions, memorize, coordinate, compile, compute
    • Work with frequent interruptions and maintain emotional control under stress

    Physical Demands:

    • Frequent: Sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and/or ramps, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive hand motions, hearing, speaking clearly, visual acuity, distinguishing colors, driving, traveling.
    • Occasional: Lifting, moderate, 15-44 pounds; carrying, moderate, 15-44 pounds

    Environmental Factors:

    • Frequent exposure to: temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise, low or intense illumination, vibration
    • Occasional exposure to: biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc.), work outside, work around moving objects or vehicles, work on uneven surfaces, work alone, work prolonged or irregular hours.
