Job Summary
The Child Nutrition Substitute assists with the preparation and service of nutritious meals to students in a school setting. This position supports regular staff as needed and helps ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming cafeteria environment while following all food safety and district guidelines.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Assist with food preparation, serving, and portioning meals according to established menus
- Operate cafeteria equipment safely (ovens, warmers, dishwashers, etc.)
- Serve meals to students in a courteous and professional manner
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen, serving lines, dining areas, and storage spaces
- Wash dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and health regulations at all times
- Assist with inventory, stocking, and storage of food and supplies
- Work cooperatively with cafeteria staff and school personnel
- Supervise students during meal service as needed
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Previous food service experience helpful but not required
- Food Handler Certification it's required
- Ability to work well with children and staff
- Knowledge of basic food safety practices (training often provided)
Physical Requirements- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30-40 pounds
- Ability to bend, stoop, and reach as required
Work Schedule- On-call / as-needed basis
- Typically during school hours
Work Environment- School cafeteria and kitchen setting
- Exposure to heat, cold, and kitchen equipment
