Summary

Colville School District is now accepting applications for substitute Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN). Substitutes will work approximately 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM on days when coverage is needed. Our nursing staff are essential members of a high-performance healthcare team, serving as professional liaisons between the school, families, healthcare providers, and the district nurses. Applicants must hold a current Washington license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Essential Duties

  • Serve as a positive, collaborative member of the school staff to support the primary goals of Colville School District.

  • Collaborates with the building supervisor(s) and school nurses in the development and evaluation of the health needs of the assignment.

  • Provide screening and assessment services for students as needed, administer oral medications, and perform scheduled nursing procedures. May also conduct limited health screenings for staff.

  • Implement emergency plans for students with specific health concerns and follow Individualized Health Care Plans and/or 504 plans for students with serious health concerns.

  • Deliver direct services as approved by Board Policy and within skill levels to include:

  • Health assessment for selected students

  • Communication of health concerns

  • Selected professional nursing treatments

  • Measuring and recording vital signs (blood pressure, weight, height, pulse, temperature and respiration rate)

  • Emergency and medical interventions when on-site and during school activities, including travel in District or First Student Transportation vehicles.

  • Personal transportation required. Must be willing to:

  • Pick up and transport designated student(s) in a District vehicle

  • Ride in First Student bus for home-to-school duties for designated student(s)

  • Complete orientation for District vehicles and related paperwork

  • Must have and maintain a driving abstract on file with the District showing safe driving history

  • Be available to work beyond regular working hours when necessary

  • Provide consultation to school district personnel regarding communicable disease control, immunization surveillance, and mandated health screenings.

  • Collaborate with other CSD departments to implement health and safety programs and assist during crises.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.   • Current Washington State license as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
  • Employment is contingent upon clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
  • Nursing degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • Three years of nursing experience, or comparable community/public health experience, preferred.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Knowledge of current health issues affecting school-aged children.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge and assurance of confidentiality standards.
  • Prepared to provide nursing services within the scope of school nurse practice as defined by RCWs and WACs.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Personal transportation and willingness to work beyond regular working hours.
  • Ability and willingness to perform medical intervention services while traveling to and from school events in District-provided vehicles or in First Student Transportation buses, and to render aid during the school events.
  • Must have and maintain a driving abstract on file with the District showing safe driving history.
  • Must be willing to ride on a school bus with designated students when necessary.
