Job Title: Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)

Reports to: Health Services Coordinator, Campus Principal, Dept., School, District
Primary Purpose:
To provide continuous, smooth, and efficient operation of school health services during the absence of the campus clinic staff.
Qualifications:
Education:
Certification:
High School diploma or GED
Valid Texas license LVN issued by the Board of Vocational Nurse Examiners
Current cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) certificates
Special Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of basic first aid
Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
Ability to use software to develop databases and do word processing
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Experience:
One year of experience in a health-related position, working with school-age children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Nursing Services:
- Evaluate ill and injured children and communicate with parents as needed
- Administer First Aid CPR or AED as needed
- Administer medication as prescribed and in compliance with State law and District policy
- Follow students medical protocol
- Comply with all Nursing Practice Act regulations
- Manage student behavior
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance to ensure a consistent focus on student learning
- Perform other duties as assigned
Clerical:
- Maintain accurate and confidential student health records, including immunization records, medication administration records, and individual student treatment records
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required, including accurate confidential health records on all students
Compliance:
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rule, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in the health services area
- Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations
- Maintain confidentiality
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Monitor the work and issue work assignments to health clinic aide and health services aide
