POSITION 27P8 TITLE: Substitute Speech Pathologist

LOCATION: Countywide

EMPLOYMENT TERM: As needed, 2026-2027 school year.

BID PERIOD: July 16-22, 2026, 3 pm. If necessary, interviews will be arranged after bid period closes.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimal qualifications will include a valid WV Student Support Specialization certificate in Speech Language Pathologist PK-AD and licensed as a Speech-Language Pathologist through the West Virginia Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide a language, speech and hearing program to meet the needs of each involved student in order to develop maximum competence in communication
  • Seek to prevent language, speech and hearing disorders through student and public education, early identification of problems and active work with children. Such work may often involve parents, educators, and health professionals
  • Provide services for children and youth who have communicative disorders:
  • Identify children with communication problems by screening, survey, or referral
  • Assess and diagnose child's communicative needs and behaviors
  • Goal based remediation given in individual and/or group sessions
  • Periodically reassess and evaluate child's goals and objectives
  • Provide direct intervention services to children with:
  • Language handicaps that are often the basis for academic learning disabilities
  • Disfluencies (stuttering)
  • Hearing impairments
  • Moderate to severe articulation defects
  • Language, speech, and hearing disorders associated with cleft palate, cerebral palsy, intellectual impairment, emotional or behavioral disturbances, visual impairment, autistic behavior, aphasia, and other conditions
  • Provide leadership and support in his/her area of responsibility
  • Establish and implement an improvement process for his/her area of responsibility
  • Establish good public and employee relations in his/her area of responsibility
  • Maintain professional work habits
  • Maintain and upgrade his/her professional skills
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or Special Education Director

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods; reach, bend, crouch, and kneel; grasp and manipulate objects; write; and use repetitive hand and arm motions. The employee must regularly communicate verbally and audibly and visually monitor students and the surrounding environment. The employee frequently uses computers, instructional technology, and multimedia equipment. The position requires the employee to frequently lift, carry, push, or move instructional materials and equipment, typically weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally more.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, the ability to adjust focus, and the ability to visually monitor multiple students and activities simultaneously.
