Steps to Apply as a Substitute Teacher for BCSD:

  1. To be eligible, you must first obtain your Sub Permit, register with the KCSOS office as a Sub Teacher, and be given a packet that says "Congratulations, You are eligible to seek employment as a Substitute Teacher in Kern County." If you have the packet, you are ready to apply to our district. If you don't have the packet, please visit the KCSOS office first so you can complete your preliminary paperwork.

  2. You will need to attach paperwork to your application, so make sure you have access to a scanner. It's in your best interest to keep the original copies of your paperwork, so please make sure you provide the copies to us; we do not make copies for you.

  3. Please attach the following paperwork from both sections in the "Other Documents" Section of your Application:

KCSOS Paperwork:Your Own Paperwork:Valid Teaching Permit or Credential that includes the document

number and expiration date or your Current Temporary County

Certificate from KCSOS. Current ResumeForm titled "Information Necessary for Sub Teaching" completed by KCSOSTranscripts showing a Bachelor's Degree or showing that you have 90 semester units and are currently enrolled in a 4-year university. Copies of required certificates, transcripts, or diplomas may be submitted with the application. The district may require that originals be presented for verification before employment. Please check with Human Resources regarding acceptable documents. For positions requiring college coursework, official transcripts will be required upon employment.

It is the applicant's responsibility to meet all application requirements and supply copies of all required documents. A separate set of paperwork is required for each application submitted. All application materials submitted become the property of Bakersfield City School District.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Some positions may require proof of privately owned automobile insurance and the possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license. Fingerprint clearance by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the California Department of Justice is a condition of appointment after all other required job conditions have been met. Must present verification of completion of Child Abuse Mandated Reporter training or obtain verification within six (6) weeks of hire and annually thereafter, as required by the California Child Abuse Neglect Reporting Act.
