ROLE AND PURPOSE:

  • Provide students with instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Minimum of forty-five (45) accredited college hours required

Experience:

  • Prior experience working with children preferred
  • Minimum age of 21 required.

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written), instruct, and maintain control under stress
  • Ability to make rational and quick decisions.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Arrive at campus 15-20 minutes prior to the start of class or scheduled duties.
  • Report to the campus substitute coordinator upon arrival.
  • Review schedule for the day and lesson plans provided by the teacher or designee.
  • Maintain effective classroom management and support district standards and policies for discipline, safety, and health.
  • Follow the lesson outlined by the absent teacher.
  • Assume responsibility for student behavior in class and during the regular teacher's assigned duties and locations.
  • Document a summary of the day, including assignments completed as well as positive and negative aspects of student behavior.
  • Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practices dictate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by campus Principal or Substitute Coordinator.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent walking, standing, and stooping.
