    SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
    ON-CALL

    Substitute Teachers play an important role in maintaining continuity of learning and a positive student experience when regular faculty members are absent. Working with students in grades 6–12, Substitute Teachers follow plans and materials provided by classroom teachers, facilitate assigned learning activities, supervise students, and maintain a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment. This role requires flexibility, sound judgment, and the ability to quickly adapt to different classrooms and student needs while upholding Bosque School’s expectations and community culture.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
     
    Classroom Instruction & Student Support
    • Follow lesson plans, instructions, and materials provided by the classroom teacher to support continuity of student learning.
    • Facilitate assigned lessons, activities, independent work, and assessments as appropriate for the assignment.
    • Maintain established classroom routines, expectations, and procedures.
    • Support students in understanding and completing assigned work and redirect students when additional focus or support is needed.
    • Create and maintain a respectful, inclusive, and productive classroom environment.
    • Communicate relevant information about the class period, student progress, or concerns to the classroom teacher and/or appropriate school administrator.
    Student Supervision & Safety
    • Provide active and attentive supervision of students throughout assigned classes and responsibilities.
    • Take and accurately report attendance in accordance with school procedures.
    • Respond appropriately to student behavioral, health, or safety concerns and seek assistance from appropriate school personnel when needed.
    • Follow student support plans and other instructions provided by appropriate school personnel.
    • Support supervision responsibilities outside the classroom, including advisory, study hall, lunch, passing periods, or other assignments as needed.
    • Follow school emergency, safety, and student supervision procedures.
    School Operations & Collaboration
    • Report to campus on time and check in with the appropriate division or administrative office for daily assignments and instructions.
    • Review available information and materials before the beginning of assigned classes.
    • Collaborate professionally with faculty, staff, administrators, and student support personnel.
    • Demonstrate flexibility in responding to schedule changes, classroom needs, and other assignments during the school day.
    • Maintain classroom materials, technology, and spaces appropriately.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned in support of student learning and school operations.
     
    QUALIFICATIONS 
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Previous experience working with middle and/or high school students in an educational, youth development, coaching, or similar setting preferred.
    • Ability to effectively supervise and engage groups of adolescents.
    • Ability to follow written lesson plans and instructions and facilitate assigned learning activities.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond calmly and appropriately to student needs and unexpected situations.
    • Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and professionalism.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries with students.
