Reports To: Sub Coordinator, Building Principal/Director Directly Supervises: N/A Narrative Description: Evansville Christian School is a community that values growth, service, and relationships. As a substitute teacher, you will play a vital role in maintaining a positive, productive classroom environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Substitute teachers are expected to implement lesson plans provided by the teacher, maintain classroom order, and support students academically and spiritually. It is essential to model Christ-like character and uphold the school's mission, vision, and philosophy. Responsibilities: - Deliver instruction following lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher, integrating biblical principles where applicable.
- Maintain a structured and supportive classroom environment that fosters learning, respect, and spiritual growth.
- Supervise and ensure student safety during all classroom activities, transitions, and any scheduled field trips or assemblies.
- Implement classroom management strategies that align with the school’s discipline policies.
- Provide support to individual students as needed to help them understand and complete assignments.
- Communicate effectively with students, demonstrating patience, compassion, and encouragement.
- Uphold the standards and expectations of Evansville Christian School in all interactions with students, staff, and parents.
- Complete any necessary documentation, such as attendance or brief feedback for the regular classroom teacher.
- Collaborate with grade-level team members, staff, and administration to ensure a seamless transition in the teacher’s absence.
Qualifications/Requirements: - Agree with ECS’ Statement of Faith and abide by ECS’ Standard of Conduct, and demonstrate support of ECS faculty/staff and policies.
- Have a heart for children, Christian education, and the ministry of ECS.
- Model a Godly, caring attitude and operate in accord with biblical values; including servant leadership, integrity, wisdom, teamwork, and open/honest communication in an atmosphere that nurtures continuous improvement.

- Participate in training as required.
- Maintain a valid substitute teaching permit through IDOE.
- Perform other school duties as requested by principal.
Physical Requirements: - Ability to stand, walk, and visually monitor for extended periods while supervising students, staff, and school activities, including throughout school buildings and grounds, including navigating stairs and outdoor areas.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry items up to 35 pounds (e.g., supplies, boxes of materials).
- Ability to hear and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and through electronic means.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations that may require quick movement across the campus.
- Ability to travel between school buildings or off-site meetings.
