Substitute Teacher
Position Summary
The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining a safe, positive, and productive learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute will follow lesson plans, manage student behavior, and ensure continuity of instruction while adhering to school policies and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow lesson plans and instructions left by the classroom teacher.
- Take attendance and maintain accurate classroom records.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with school policies.
- Provide instruction and assistance to students as needed.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful classroom environment.
- Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, and other assigned duties.
- Communicate any concerns, incidents, or notable events to school administration.
- Ensure the security and proper use of school property and materials.
- Adapt to different grade levels, subjects, and classroom settings as assigned.
- Promote a positive learning atmosphere and support student success.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate''s or bachelor''s degree preferred.
- Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting is preferred.
- Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to follow directions and work independently.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Must meet all state, district, and school requirements for substitute teachers.

- Ability to effectively supervise and engage students.
- Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and assignments.
- Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in a classroom setting.
Working Conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the school day.
- Ability to supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, and outdoor areas.
- May be assigned to elementary, middle school, or high school classrooms as needed.
Compensation
Compensation will be based on the approved substitute teacher pay scale and applicable district guidelines.
