Summary

R. D. Seymour Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Long Term Substitute for a Grade 5 classroom. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and effective instruction while maintaining a positive learning environment. This position requires collaboration with staff and effective communication with students and parents to ensure the continuity of learning during the absence of the regular teacher.

This is a long-term position starting approximately November 2, 2026. The position will last 12-14 weeks. Anyone applying for this position must hold or be eligible for a valid State of Connecticut Teaching Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Deliver daily instruction in accordance with the established curriculum and lesson plans.
• Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student engagement and learning.
• Assess and evaluate student progress, providing feedback to students and parents as needed.
• Manage classroom behavior effectively, implementing school-wide policies and procedures.
• Collaborate with other educators and support staff to ensure a cohesive educational experience for all students.
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, classroom activities, and any concerns.
• Prepare and organize instructional materials and resources for daily lessons.
• Participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities as required.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic performance.
• Adapt lessons and teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of students.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field is preferred.
• Valid teaching certification or license for elementary education.
• Previous experience in a classroom setting, particularly with Grade 5 students, is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and parents.
• Proficiency in using educational technology and tools to enhance learning.
• Commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of students and the school community.
• Background check and clearance as required by school district policies.
