Position Title: Substitute Teacher (Grades K-8) - Per Diem

School Year: 2026-2027

Location: OLM Prep Academy Madison, CT

Position Type: Per Diem / On-Call

Position Description

We are seeking dedicated, flexible, and enthusiastic Substitute Teachers for grades K-8 for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. Our substitute teachers play a vital role in maintaining continuous, high-quality instruction and fostering a safe, structured, and respectful classroom environment when regular teachers are absent.

This position is ideal for certified educators looking for flexibility, transitioning professionals, or aspiring teachers seeking classroom experience in a supportive educational community, or retired educators.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Instructional Continuity: Implement and deliver lesson plans, assignments, and activities left by the classroom teacher with fidelity.

Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, orderly, and productive learning environment that aligns with school-wide behavioral expectations and values.

  • Safety & Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of all students throughout the school day, including supervising transitions, recess, or lunch duties as assigned.
  • Professionalism: Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and performance, and leave a detailed summary of the days progress for the returning teacher.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required by the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) for daily substitution.
  • Certification: Connecticut Teaching Certificate
  • Background Clearence: Successful completion of mandatory State of Connecticut criminal background checks, fingerprinting, and Department of Children and Families (DCF) abuse/neglect registry checks.
  • Skills: Strong communication, flexibility, adaptability, and excellent classroom management skills across different grade levels (K-8).
  • Hours: 7:45 AM -3 PM Sometimes only a half day is required (7:45-11:30 or 11:30-3)
  • Schedule: On-call, flexible per-diem basis.
