JOB DESCRIPTION OF THE SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

REPORTS TO PRINCIPAL-ADMINISTRATION

PURPOSE To follow the lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher. To present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Works closely with CEOAdministration.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. MAJOR FUNCTION Management of Instructional Time The substitute teacher utilizes given materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson at the start of the lesson or instructional activity, gets the class started quickly, gets students on task quickly at the beginning of each lesson, maintains a high level of student time-on-task.

B. MAJOR FUNCTION Management of Student Behavior The substitute teacher follows and has established a set of rules and procedures that govern the handling of routine administrative matters. Has established a set of rules and procedures that govern student verbal participation and talk during different types of activities. Has established a set of rules and procedures that govern student movement in the classroom during different types of instructional and non-instructional activities. Frequently monitors the behavior of all students during whole-class, small group, and set work activities and during transitions between instructional activities. Stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently.

C. MAJOR FUNCTION Instructional Presentation The substitute teacher begins the lesson or instructional activity with a review of previous materials, introduces the lesson or instructional activity, and specific learning objectives when appropriate. Speaks fluently and precisely presents the lesson or instructional activity using concepts and language understandable to the students. Provides relevant examples and demonstrations to illustrate concepts and skills and assigns tasks that students handle with a high rate of success.

D. MAJOR FUNCTION Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance The substitute teacher maintains clear, firm, and reasonable work standards. Circulates during class work to check all students performance. Routinely checks student progress.

E. MAJOR FUNCTION Instructional Feedback The substitute teacher provides feedback on the correctness or incorrectness of in-class work.

F. MAJOR FUNCTION Facilitating Instruction The substitute teacher follows the instructional plan that is provided by the classroom teacher. Maintains accurate records to document student performance for the classroom teacher and utilizes material resources to support the instructional plan given.

G. MAJOR FUNCTION Interacting Within the Educational Environment The substitute teacher treats all students in a fair and equitable manner and interacts effectively with students and teachers.

H. MAJOR FUNCTION Performing Non-Instructinoal Duties The substitute teacher follows the classroom teachers schedule for non-instructional duties as assigned and/or as needed. Adheres to established school laws, policies, rules, and regulations.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

An Associates Degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 cumulative GPA OR A Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university with a 2.0 cumulative GPA
