Mission Alignment: Jackson Hole Classical Academy operates in the historic Christian tradition. All
faculty, staff, and board members annually reaffirm their commitment to the Nicene Creed. During the
initial screening process, applicants are asked to affirm their agreement with the Nicene Creed, before
continuing in the application process.
 
Position Description: The Substitute Teacher reports to the Head of School under the supervision of the
Dean of Faculty and supports K–12 classrooms during teacher absences. The Substitute Teacher ensures
the continuity of high-quality classical education during teacher absences by implementing prepared
lesson plans, engaging students in meaningful learning, and maintaining a positive classroom
environment. This is a temporary, hourly position ideal for individuals passionate about education and
skilled in best practices of classroom management.
 
Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains the integrity of the Academy’s classical curriculum and culture.
• Steps into various K–12 classroom environments and subject areas, adapting quickly to the needs
of each.
• Delivers pre-planned lessons in a clear and engaging manner.
• Manages classroom behaviors and ensures a productive and respectful learning environment.
• Supervises students during instructional periods, transitions, and other assigned times, such as
lunch or recess.
• Communicates effectively with students, staff, and administration.
• Provides feedback to the regular classroom teacher regarding any notable occurrences or
completed assignments.

• Flexibility and adaptability to different grade levels and subject areas.

Education and Professional Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in education, a subject area relevant to K–12, or a related
  • field.
  • Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience preferred.
  • Willingness to learn the principles and practices of classical education; familiarity with classical
  • education preferred.

Requirements
Ability to work on-call with short notice.
Ability to supervise and engage students across a range of grade levels (K–12).
Successfully pass a background check and meet all state and local requirements for school
employment.
Physical ability to stand, move, and engage with students actively throughout the day.
