The Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, structured, and positive learning environment when the regular classroom teacher is absent. The Substitute Teacher follows the lesson plans and classroom procedures provided by the teacher, maintains appropriate classroom management, and supports the academic, social, and spiritual development of students.
Essential Responsibilities
Follow lesson plans and instructional directions left by the classroom teacher.
Provide meaningful instruction and learning activities for students.
Maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment.
Follow school policies, procedures, and expectations.
Take attendance and maintain accurate records as required.
Monitor student behavior and address classroom issues appropriately.
Communicate significant academic, behavioral, or safety concerns to the administration.
Supervise students during classroom transitions, recess, lunch, dismissal, and other assigned duties.
Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, and school matters.
Use classroom technology and instructional materials as needed.
Leave the classroom organized and prepared for the regular teacher''s return.
Support the mission, values, and Catholic identity of Blessed Savior Catholic School.
Serve as a positive role model and demonstrate professionalism, patience, and respect toward all students and staff.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or school administration.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or a teaching degree is preferred.
Previous experience working with children or in a classroom setting preferred.
Ability to effectively manage and supervise students.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Dependable, flexible, and able to respond appropriately to changing classroom needs.
Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, students, and families.
Commitment to maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
Respect for and willingness to support the Catholic mission and values of the school.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, sit, and move throughout the school day.
Ability to supervise and respond to students in a classroom and school environment.
Ability to lift or carry classroom materials as reasonably required.
Employment Expectations
Substitute Teachers are expected to arrive on time, be prepared to assume classroom responsibilities for the full school day, and follow all school policies and procedures. Substitute Teachers may be asked to serve at either the East Campus or West Campus, depending on school needs.
