Substitute Teacher

The Substitute Teacher is a part-time, as-needed position with a flexible work schedule based on school needs. Substitute teachers may serve across all grades on either campus as assigned. Substitute teachers report to their respective Assistant Head of School (Lower, Middle, Upper) based on assignment.

Position Overview

Substitute teachers maintain continuity of learning and ensuring a safe, orderly, and productive classroom environment in the absence of the regular teacher.

The substitute teacher will support the mission of Cincinnati Classical Academy by demonstrating professionalism, flexibility, and commitment to the principles of classical education.

The substitute teacher''s essential duties and responsibilities are as follows:

• Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to classical education and the vision, mission, and philosophy of the school
• Implements lesson plans as provided by the classroom teacher and ensuring continuity of instruction
• Maintains a classroom environment that is safe, orderly, and conducive to learning
• Manages the classroom through established routines, procedures, and expectations
• Supervises students throughout the school day, including during transitions, lunch, recess, or other assigned duties
• Engages students in meaningful learning activities aligned to the provided plans
• Manages student behavior in accordance with school policies and expectations
• Communicates effectively with school administration and staff regarding student behavior, instructional progress, and any concerns that arise
• Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in responding to varying grade levels, subjects, and classroom needs
• Maintains appropriate records of attendance, assignments, and any relevant notes for the returning teacher
• Upholds confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and staff
• Performs other related duties as assigned by school leadership

Qualifications

The substitute teacher shall be a person who is dependable, adaptable, and capable of interacting effectively with students, staff, and administration. Additionally, strong candidates will possess:

• Minimum of bachelor''s degree
• Valid Ohio substitute teaching license (or ability to obtain)
• Strong classroom management and communication skills
• Ability to adapt quickly to different grade levels and classroom environments
• Commitment to supporting the mission and values of a classical education model

Preferred Attributes

• Prior teaching or substitute teaching experience
• Open availability and willingness to accept short-notice assignments
• Familiarity with classical education or willingness to learn
