Essential Components of the Job

In the absence of the regular classroom teacher to help students to learn subject matter and/or skills that are required for scheduled lessons or to provide meaningful instruction for assigned classrooms.

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the location and at the times designated.
  • Implements the lesson plans left by the classroom teacher.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
  • Takes attendance in accordance with school procedures.
  • Serves as a positive role model for students, demonstrating professionalism that includes a positive attitude, positive and respectful communication, and professional appearance.
  • Insures that the students are never left unattended in the classroom.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly classroom.
  • Understands procedures for referring students with disciplinary problems.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Minimum Qualifications

Some teaching/instructional experience preferred. Must have a current AZ DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card, Arizona Department of Education Substitute Teacher Certificate and/or valid Teaching Certificate.

Pay Rate: Daily rate of pay:

  • 1st Year Substitutes with a Substitute Teacher Certification only, $125/day
  • Experienced Substitutes with Substitute Teacher Certifications only, $130/day
  • Substitutes with Full Arizona Teaching Certification, $140/day

Incentives:

  • For every 30 days worked, Substitute Teachers will receive an additional day of pay at their regular pay rate.
  • Long-term substitutes will earn an additional $15/day after their 20th day.

Driving Requirement:

This job description does not require the incumbent to drive; however, any employee who chooses or is asked to drive an SRPMIC vehicle for work related community business must receive authorization to do so. For clarification, work related community business includes driving to and from SRPMIC government sites and buildings.

Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment Drug Test and extensive Fingerprint and Background Check. Employee is Subject to Random Drug Testing and completion of a Background Check every five (5) years.

Employment preference is given in the following order: 1) Qualified Community Member 2) Qualified Native American, and 3) Other Qualified Applicant.

Retirement Plans

401(k) and Roth Plans: Eligible employees can participate in both pre-tax and post-tax retirement savings plans. SRPMIC contributes 5% of your compensation to the pre-tax 401(k) and matches up to 3% of your salary deferral contributions.

Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS): Available to eligible certified police officers and firefighters.

Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS): Available to Salt River School educators.

Paid Leave & Holidays
