Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides instruction and manages classroom environments in the absence of the regular teacher.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows the regular teacher's lesson plans in a way that ensures consistency and optimal learning, and that encourages students to participate.
  • Assigns classwork and homework as necessary, according to lesson plans.
  • Modifies teaching style to fit the learning styles of various students.
  • Supervises students out of class such as in the hallway and in the cafeteria.
  • Takes attendance and documents daily notes.
  • Ensures the classroom is kept clean and orderly.
  • Compiles a report for the teacher when he/she returns.
  • Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information.
  • Maintains discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive learning environment for all students.
  • Ensures the adequate supervision to assure health, welfare, and safety of all students.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Reports to office upon arrival at school.
  • Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible.
  • Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place.
  • Complies with and supports school and state regulations and policies.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the WI Teaching Standards, district teaching expectations and delivery of the WI content standards, and federal or state laws pertaining to students.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Substitute Teaching License or Teaching License from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • Experience substitute teaching.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Capable on a continuous basis of standing, sitting, reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, twisting; repetitive movement of both hands and feet; seeing with both near and far visual acuity and to hear.

  2. Capable on a frequent basis of walking and moving, climbing stairs, lifting from floor to waist (up to #50), waist to shoulders (up to #25).

  3. Capable on an occasional basis of pushing; pulling; lifting from shoulders to overhead (up to #25).
