    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Substitute Teacher is responsible for delivering instruction and maintaining a positive learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The ideal candidate is flexible, dependable, and capable of managing diverse classrooms across all grade levels (Kâ12). A substitute teacher has the ability to sub at any of the four buildings in our district- Woodbridge Early Childhood Education Center, Phillis Wheatley Elementary School, Woodbridge Middle School, and Woodbridge High School. This role involves following lesson plans, ensuring student safety, and supporting academic progress in accordance with school policies and educational standards.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED required
    • Bachelor's Degree preferred (especially in Education or related field)
    • Teaching certification/licensure preferred (as required by state or district)
    • Strong classroom management skills
    • Ability to adapt to various grade levels and subjects
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to follow written lesson plans and instructional materials
    • Patience, flexibility, and a genuine interest in working with students
    • Basic technology proficiency (e.g., promethean board, email, laptop)

    RATE: Rates are for a full day absence.

    Blue Raider Rate: License/Certified Teacher (valid or expired license)- $215

    Class B: Bachelor's or at least 60 credits in an education program to become a certified teacher- $143

    Class C: Anyone who does not meet the requirements of Class A or Class B and has a High School diploma or GED- $113

    All substitutes for paraprofessional absences make a Class C rate regardless of qualifications.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Follow and implement lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher.
    • Maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and orderly classroom environment.
    • Instruct students in assigned subject areas using appropriate instructional strategies.
    • Implement effective classroom management practices consistent with school expectations.
    • Adapt instruction and teaching methods, as appropriate, to meet the needs of diverse learners.
    • Supervise students during instructional time, transitions, lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned duties.
    • Maintain accurate student attendance and complete required documentation.
    • Utilize classroom technology and instructional resources appropriately.
    • Communicate professionally and effectively with students, staff, and administration.
    • Report student behavioral concerns, accidents, injuries, safety issues, or other significant incidents to school administration promptly.
    • Maintain the confidentiality of student and staff information in accordance with district policies and applicable laws.
    • Follow all district and school policies, procedures, safety protocols, and emergency response plans.
    • Leave a written summary for the returning teacher regarding lesson completion, student progress, attendance, and any significant classroom events.
    • Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and sound judgment in carrying out assigned responsibilities.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:

    Work is performed in a classroom and school environment with frequent interaction with students, staff, parents, and visitors. Substitute teachers must be flexible and adaptable, as assignments may vary by grade level, subject area, school building, and student population. The position requires the ability to stand, walk, and actively supervise students for extended periods. Substitute teachers may be assigned supervisory responsibilities in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, buses, assemblies, and other school settings and must be able to respond appropriately in emergency situations by following all district safety, security, and crisis response procedures. Regular and punctual attendance, professional appearance, sound judgment, and effective communication are essential. Employment is temporary and on an as-needed basis. Assignments are not guaranteed and may be modified or canceled prior to reporting based on the operational needs of the school or district.
