Our client, an established surveying and geospatial services firm, is seeking a SUE Crew Chief. In this hands-on leadership role, you will guide a field team through utility locating, designation, and mapping work on public and private-sector infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate brings a strong command of SUE quality levels and locating technology, along with the leadership to develop technicians and keep every project safe, accurate, and on schedule.
Job Responsibilities -
- Direct daily SUE field crews and coordinate utility designation and mapping activities.
- Locate and trace buried utilities using electromagnetic locators and Ground Penetrating Radar.
- Conduct utility investigations across Quality Levels D through A following established SUE standards.
- Oversee vacuum excavation to expose and verify underground utility locations.
- Review utility records, as-builts, and construction plans to guide field work.
- Train, coach, and develop SUE technicians and field support staff.
- Verify the accuracy of field data and mapping deliverables before submission.
- Maintain field reports, documentation, vehicles, and equipment while enforcing safety procedures.
Job Requirements -
- 5+ years of utility locating experience, including at least 3 years in Subsurface Utility Engineering.
- Solid understanding of the SUE process and Quality Levels D through A.
- Hands-on experience with electromagnetic locating equipment (Radiodetection, Vivax-Metrotech, or
comparable) and GPR systems.
- Experience with vacuum excavation and interpreting utility records and construction drawings.
- High school diploma, valid driver's license, and a clean driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied conditions, lift up to 50 lbs, and travel up to 50%.
- Experience with ImpulseRadar GPR systems or Vacmaster vacuum excavation units a plus.
- Background in surveying, DOT or transportation projects, or Civil 3D/MicroStation preferred.
