Summer 2027 Intern - Marketing-Earned Media Specialist

Responsibilities:

The Marketing Earned Media team works to extend the State Farm Marketing message to new audiences through Earned Media. The team works with campaigns that focus on sports, gaming, entertainment, and more to tell the State Farm story. Additionally, there are members of the team who lead functional work including PR measurement, AI workflows, and owned external newsroom channels. Depending on the work in flight, successful candidates could have the opportunity to work with celebrity talent on interview prep, collaborate with external agencies on pitching strategies, and/or work with measurement teams to help understand the impact of Earned Media. Successful candidates might also have the opportunity to connect with others across functions and workstreams on special projects to uncover future ways Marketing can connect with customers.

 

As an intern in this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Work with the award-winning State Farm Earned Media team and leadership to develop Earned Media support for Marketing campaigns.
• Provide creative feedback and guidance to internal and external creative partners.
• Identify what’s new/now/next in the world of PR and Marketing to identify areas of opportunity.
• Monitor brand mentions and perform competitive monitoring of other brands.  
• Provide input on AI workstreams to help the team work more efficiently.
• Tell the story of Earned Media and Marketing impact using best-in-class measurement tools.
• Participate in ‘war rooms’ for significant real time activations.

Qualifications:

We are looking for: 

• Seeking a current Junior, Senior, or Grad Student majoring in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing/Advertising, Journalism, Sports Marketing, and Sports Management. Will consider Sophomores with a 4.0 GPA.  NOTE: To be eligible for the summer internship program, candidates must be a full-time student currently enrolled in an undergraduate or post-graduate program at least throughout the duration of the internship.
• Minimum GPA of 3.5 – 4.0 (please list on resume)

• Excellent written communication skills
• Time management skills with the ability to prioritize & multi-task under shifting deadlines and needs within a fast-paced environment
• Strong PowerPoint Presentation skills
• Social media proficiency
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex information.
• Solid Decision Making and Judgement skills
• Public Relations Industry Knowledge
• An initiative mindset
• The ability to be adaptable

Preferred Skills

• Microsoft Office Suite
• Knowledge of Associated Press (AP) writing style

 

Internship Program Eligibility:

To be eligible for the summer internship program, you must be a full-time student currently enrolled in an undergraduate or post-graduate program throughout the duration of the internship. Selected interns must reside within the continental U.S. for the duration of the summer internship.

 

***Applicants are required to be eligible to lawfully work in the U.S. immediately; employer will not sponsor applicants for U.S. work authorization (e.g. H-1B visa) for this opportunity***

 

What You Can Expect:

• The internship will occur between June 2, 2027 - August 11, 2027 (10 weeks)
• Hours: Monday-Friday, 38.75 hours per week

• Pay: $22/hour. In addition, interns selected for our summer internship program will be eligible for a $2,000 stipend (minus applicable taxes)!

• Competitive candidates will be invited to participate in a pre-screening video

 

** Due to the short duration of the summer program, it is an expectation that hired interns will be available for the duration of the summer internship with little to no disruption in work schedule.

 

Work Arrangement:

HYBRID: Selected interns should plan to spend time working from home and some time working in the office as part of our hybrid work environment.  Please note that relocation benefits will not apply.

HOME/HUB LOCATIONs: Bloomington, IL
