Humana invites MBA and other advanced-degree students to join its Summer 2027 Internship Program. This immersive experience allows students to contribute to meaningful, enterprise-level work across a range of business functions, engage with executive leaders, and develop the skills and perspective needed for a successful healthcare career after graduation.

MBA Primary Care & Clinical Innovation Internship opportunities are available across several strategic areas, including: 

 

• Clinical Performance & Innovation
• CenterWell Primary Care Organization  
• Primary Care Organization Practice Technology
• Portfolio & Change Management
• Value Based Care Enablement
• Medical Specialty Operations

 

Across these strategic areas, interns help translate priorities in primary care and clinical innovation into action through strategic planning, business case development, cross-functional coordination, process improvement, portfolio execution, and transformation support. They may contribute to initiatives that strengthen clinical performance, advance technology-enabled care, improve operational efficiency, and deliver greater value for patients and the enterprise while supporting sound governance and continuous improvement.

Location and work arrangement: This is a 12-week, in-person internship based primarily at Humana’s headquarters in Louisville, KY, with limited opportunities in Arlington, VA; Chicago, IL; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Boston, MA; Nashville, TN; and New York, NY.  Interns should expect to work in the office three to four days per week, depending on leader and team needs. Remote opportunities are not available.

 

Please note: Candidates who receive a full-time offer after the internship will be required to work in or relocate to one of the locations listed above.

Required Qualifications: 

• Currently enrolled in a Master of Business Administration (MBA) or another advanced professional degree program, such as an MPH, MD, JD, or PhD, with an expected graduation date in spring or summer 2028 
• Available to work full time, 40 hours per week, throughout the Summer 2027 program from May 24, 2027, through August 13, 2027.  
• Must be willing to work in-person 3-4 days per week for the duration of the internship in either Louisville, KY; Arlington, VA; Boston, MA; Fort Lauderdale, FL; Nashville, TN; and New York, NY.
• Must not require sponsorship to work in the United States either now or in the future
• Minimum of three years of professional experience completed before beginning graduate school 
• Demonstrated leadership through professional, academic, military, or extracurricular experiences, with a record of guiding teams, advancing cross-functional initiatives, influencing stakeholders, and delivering measurable results in a dynamic environment 

    

Preferred Qualifications:    

• Healthcare Business Acumen: Demonstrated interest in primary care, clinical innovation, value-based care, population health, or the evolving healthcare business landscape.
• Strategic and Analytical Problem-Solving: Ability to synthesize complex business, clinical, operational, and consumer information and translate insights into data-informed, actionable recommendations.
• Execution and Learning Agility: Demonstrated ability to navigate ambiguity, create structure, prioritize effectively, adapt quickly, and advance work with accountability and ownership.
• Cross-Functional Influence: Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively and influence stakeholders across clinical, operational, technology, finance, and business teams.
• Executive Communication: Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, including the ability to communicate complex information clearly, concisely, and effectively to diverse audiences.

    

Internship Program Overview:  

Humana’s 12-week internship program offers an immersive experience intended to support professional growth, strengthen leadership capabilities, and provide opportunities to contribute to meaningful business priorities.

• Onboarding and orientation designed to introduce Humana’s culture, mission, strategy, and enterprise priorities and help interns prepare for their assigned business area.
• Meaningful project work within an assigned team, where interns may apply analytical, strategic, and problem-solving skills to work connected to business goals, customer needs, and organizational priorities.
• Exposure to real business challenges through projects that may involve data-informed decision-making, innovation, process improvement, or other areas relevant to the team’s needs.
• Opportunities for leader engagement and enterprise connection through selected presentations, networking activities, and program experiences that may broaden business perspective and relationships across the organization.
• Development and support from assigned leaders, program partners, peers, and other available resources, with opportunities to receive guidance, feedback, and career-development support during the internship.
• Leadership and career-readiness development intended to strengthen future-ready skills and increase awareness of potential career pathways within Humana.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

 

$37,440 - $96,800 per year
