Auburn Youth Programs (AYP), part of the Office of Professional and Continuing Education, brings academic summer camps to life for over 4,000 high school students each year. Our camps combine learning, adventure, and the unique spirit of Auburn University to create experiences campers will never forget.

As a Camp Counselor, you’ll be at the heart of the action, leading fun evening activities, mentoring campers, and creating a welcoming, high-energy environment. While Auburn faculty and staff run the daytime curriculum, you’ll take charge of hands on, interactive programming that ensures every camper has a memorable and exciting summer.

The pay rate for an AYP Summer Camp Counselor is a $450 weekly stipend. Housing and meals are provided while each camp is in session.

Responsibilities:

As a counselor, you’ll help create extraordinary experiences for camp participants while developing leadership and mentorship skills. 

Meals and overnight accommodations are provided while camps are in session; however, counselors must arrange their own housing and meals during off weeks.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
    • Engage Enthusiastically: Actively participate in all camp sessions and activities with energy and enthusiasm, ensuring a fun and welcoming environment for campers.
    • Guide and Supervise: Escort campers to all daily programs, including dorm stays, walks across campus, dining hall meals, curriculum sessions, and recreational activities.
    • Be a Mentor: Serve as a mentor and guide, welcoming campers into the Auburn family and embodying the Auburn spirit to create a memorable and inspiring experience.
    • Ensure Safety: Maintain constant supervision of campers during camp-related sessions, field trips (both on and off campus), dining, and overnight dorm stays to ensure their safety.
    • Support Camp Logistics: Assist with camp check-in and check-out processes, distribute camp materials, and perform other tasks to ensure smooth operations.
    • Uphold Policies: Adhere to all AYP and Auburn University regulations regarding minors, housing, and other safety guidelines.
    • Complete Training: Attend mandatory counselor training before the start of camps, tentatively planned for the week of May 19th.
    • Additional Duties: Take on additional responsibilities as assigned to support the success of the camp.
    • All counselor positions must stay overnight, Monday – Friday ( 5 days, 4 nights), in provided on campus housing every week from May 26th to July 18th excluding June 29 – July 3rd.

Qualifications:
  • Enrolled student at Auburn University for at least one year
    • Enrolled and taking classes during the semester of employment; or
    • Not enrolled in classes for the semester of employment, but enrolled in the previous semester and enrolled for the following semester.
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Be at least 19 years old on June 1, 2026, pass a background check, and possess a valid driver’s license
