Description of Service Opportunity

CPS Summer Academic programs are designed to provide additional learning time to students working below grade level in order to build a positive identity as learners and prevent loss of skills during the summer months.

The 2025 Summer District Social Worker under the supervision of the Director of Social Emotional Learning. The Social Worker will support Summer Academic program staff in the delivery of social emotional learning through modeling, coaching, consultation, and facilitation of activities that support social and emotional skill development. Additionally, the social worker will provide targeted support to students identified in need of social emotional and/or mental health services.

During the program dates, July 7th - August 1st, the Social Worker will work 9:00 - 3:00, 6 hours each day, and up to an additional 5 hours per week for additional student needs and family outreach. The Social Worker will also attend mandatory program orientation and set up prior to the beginning of the Summer Learning Camp, June 30 - July 2.

Duties will include:

• Provide support to educators in the integration of SEL within the school day through modeling, coaching, consultation, and/or technical support. • Provide targeted support to students identified in need of social emotional, behavioral, and/or mental health support through individual and/or group counseling. • Provide assessment for student safety and crisis intervention support as needed. • Communicate and collaborate with families and caregivers to support the social emotional, behavioral, and/or mental health needs of students in the program. • Collaborate with educators, principal, and other summer staff in order to create and maintain a safe supportive environment for students. • Collaborate and connect with community-based organizations in order to ensure that students and families have the resources and services that they need. • Plan, develop, and facilitate activities for students to further develop their social and emotional skills.

In addition, Social Workers will receive up to 10 hours for pre-program planning activities in June, including:

• Up to 6 hours of meeting and program planning time will be scheduled between June 1 - June 30th. Specific training dates and times will be communicated in the job offer.

  • Developing a menu/calendar of SEL activities and resources to be implemented in the afternoons on a daily basis.
  • Collaborating with Summer Principal on protocols related to student social emotional and mental health needs.
  • Building understanding of community resources that are available to families who may be in need of services. • 4 additional hours of independent planning time

Minimum Requirements

Must have a commitment to equity and have demonstrated the ability to build relationships with and effectively engage students from diverse backgrounds representing diverse learning styles and grade levels. The Summer District Social Worker must have the ability to work with educators, staff, and families in supporting students experiencing social emotional, behavioral, and/or mental health challenges, including a willingness to work collaboratively to help develop learning activities that support SEL as well as support individual student needs.

The Summer District Social Worker will be responsible for maintaining proper records, including documentation of interventions and referrals to community agencies.

Appropriate certification required:

  • DESE School Social Worker License
  • Clinical Licensure (LMHC, LCSW, LICSW)

Preference will be given to regularly appointed staff from the Cambridge Public School District. This is an in-person position and will require supporting multiple summer school sites.

Length of Contract July 1, 2026 to July 31, 2026

Contract Amount Not to exceed $8,000.00

Please note that your hourly rate is dependent upon your collective bargaining agreement or individual hourly rate. If you are a non-exempt employee and have worked more than 40 hours a week, you will be paid time and a half for any hours worked over 40 hours.
