Position Information

Title Summer EXCEL Program Support Position Description

The EXCEL Program at Bridgewater State University (BSU) is a fully-inclusive postsecondary program for young adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Students in the EXCEL program share the same experiences as BSU undergraduate students in the areas of academics, socialization, professional development, self-advocacy and independent living. The EXCEL Program offers three options for participation. With supports in place, BSU EXCEL students enroll in courses, take part in internships, socialize with peers and participate in campus clubs and activities.

The EXCEL program is proud to offer this unique position to qualified candidate interested in enhancing their academic experience here at BSU. The student interested in working in service-

oriented fields such as education, social work, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and

counseling will truly benefit from the hands-on experience they will gain through working with the students and staff in our program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical assistance to students as needed
  • Assist program staff with essential duties as needed
  • Support program staff with trainings
  • Support program staff with Vocational Programs
  • Support program staff with applications
  • Operate EXCEL program social media
  • Other duties as assigned

Eligibility requirements:

Must be a Bridgewater State University undergraduate student registered for a minimum of six credits for the Fall 2026 semester.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities
  • Sensitivity to student needs, concerns, and individual issues, as well as flexibility, patience and high professional integrity
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations of students
  • Energetic, self-starter who can complete multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office 365 and various social media platforms.

Physical Demands

Applicants must be prepared to spend an active day traveling around campus and accompanying the program student to class, internships, meetings, etc.

Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment; Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 5 pounds.
