OVERVIEW: The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe is seeking a highly organized, positive, and community-minded individual to fulfill the seasonal role of the Summer Food Service Program Coordinator. The Summer Food Service Program is a USDA-run program to distribute free meals to children in the community. The Program Coordinator shops, prepare meals and oversee daily lunch service, ensure orderly and safe conditions are maintained, and maintain records of daily food service.

SUPERVISED BY: Education Director/Library Manager

POSITION STATUS: Temporary Full-Time (40 hrs./wk.), June-August

SALARY LEVEL: $20.00/hourly

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, hours vary depending on needs of program

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

  • Must complete SFSP (Summer Food Service Program) training.
  • Shop and prepare fresh, from-scratch meals in a professional kitchen setting.
  • Prepare the proper number of meals daily established through communication with SFSP Administrator.
  • Ensure safe handling of food by complying with local health and safety rules.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of food storage spaces daily.
  • Ensure all participants receive a meal and that no one is overserved; record each participant receiving a meal.
  • Accurately track meal counts and milk counts daily from each serving site.
  • Transport meals in a large, 15 passenger van from kitchen to various distribution sites while adhering to the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Vehicle Operation Policy.
  • Follow established routes and schedules to ensure timely delivery of meals and compliance with food safety rules.
  • Daily setup and breakdown of each meal site, ensuring cleanliness and respect for property management and occupants.
  • Serve meals to children at sites in accordance with all SFSP regulations, including maintaining accurate documentation of meal counts and food temperatures.
  • Enthusiastically work with volunteers, partners, and program participants from various backgrounds to facilitate meal service.
  • Communicate effectively with SFSP Administrator to ensure the proper number of meals are prepared daily and that any concerns are addressed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Washington State Driver's License with clean driving record and insurable.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds and stand for long durations.
  • Must have or be able to obtain within 15 days of employment, a First Aid and Child CPR card
  • Must attain a USDA Food Handler's Certification upon hiring
  • Pass Washington State background check along with a fingerprint-based background check.
  • Must be able to comply with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Drug Free Workplace policies.
  • Nature of work requires the ability to collect, compile and prepare work documents, operating standard business office equipment and software.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
