TITLE: Lead Gym/Physical Education Teacher 

POSITION TYPE: Part-time (30-35 hours per week)

REPORTS TO: Unit Director

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

AVAILABILITY:  Summer - Mon-Fri 

• 8:45am-3:45pm | Gym Teacher (All Ages)

Job Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• CPR / First-Aid Training

Additional Qualifications:
         2 + Years of experience in working with underserved children and tweens/teens
       Strong understanding of youth physical development
       Ability to motivate youth through sports, fitness and positive reinforcement
       Ability to communicate effectively with youth, families and staff
       Ability to plan, review, and lead structured physical education activities
       Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
       Ability to participate in and demonstrate physical activities

Specific Job Responsibilities

Program Planning:

The Lead Gym Teacher will plan, prepare and facilitate daily physical education and recreational activities. Programming should be age-appropriate, safe, and focused on fitness, teamwork, skill building and fun.

Safe, Positive Climate:

The Lead Gym Teacher must ensure a safe and positive climate for all members at all times. This includes ensuring equipment is in good working condition, setting and communicating clear expectations. Supervising youth closely during all activities and maintaining awareness of all gym and nearby areas.

Program Implementation:

The Lead Gym Teacher actively leads lessons and activities with enthusiasm and professionalism. Responsibilities include encouraging participation, celebrating effort and improvement. Modeling sportsmanship and positive behavior. 

Guidance:

The Lead Gym Teacher provides supportive guidance to all club members. The Lead Gym Teacher must be able to recognize “trouble” situations and have the ability to diffuse the situation. The Lead Gym Teacher should always be conscious to develop positive values and ethical behaviors within the members. The Lead Gym Teacher should strive to model these values and behaviors not only while working at the Club but outside the Club as well. 

Administration:

• The Lead Gym Teacher will ensure that his/her program areas have the proper inventory of gym equipment and supplies.
• The Lead Gym Teacher will utilize the Lead/Assistant as necessary.
• The Lead Gym Teacher will have weekly, monthly and seasonal plans and will evaluate the program s/he is running on a regular basis. 
• The Lead Gym Teacher will report bi-weekly to the Director of School-Aged Programs and/or Director of Community Programs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Ability to stand, run, and move for long periods of time
  
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds periodically
• Ability to work in environments with a wide array of noise and activity levels
• Ability to engage in physical activities with youth
