Position Description

Class Title: Summer Health Technician

Pay Rate: $15.00 per hour

Department: Community & Economic Development

Bureau: Health

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The summer health technician is responsible for assisting in Health Bureau-related functions, specifically the Nutrition & Physical Activity Program''s Alliance Summer Recreation Program.

SUPERVISION

Works under the direction of the Nutrition & Physical Activity Manager and/or other Health Bureau Managers as assigned.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervises participants between ages 7-13.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

"tIs responsible for the supervision of youth participating in the Alliance Summer Recreation Program under the direction of the Health Bureau''s Nutrition & Physical Activity Manager

  • tFacilitates and engages with youth ages 7-13 through a variety of recreation and education activities including, but not limited to, playground games, arts and crafts, health education, and swimming.
  • tAssists with all assigned aspects of the day including, but not limited to, daily programming, attendance, meals and inspection/clean-up of the program site.
  • tEducates and engages with youth while enforcing program rules, policies and procedures.
  • tRecognizes and alerts chain of command of issues related to, but not limited to, safety and well-being, inappropriate behaviors and parental concerns.
  • tMeets attendance requirements of the program (Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM-4:00 PM), including all orientation requirements, required trainings and daily staff meetings.

"tAssist as needed in any Health Bureau-related community activity to support staff in the following programs: Maternal and Child Health, Injury Prevention, Nutrition and Physical Activity, Public Health Engagement and Outreach, Public Health Emergency Preparedness, Communicable Disease Prevention and Education, and Environmental Health.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

"tCollege or high school student 16 years of age or older, or

"tHave related experience and/or career in fields of study that may include Health, Recreation, Education, Social Work, Counseling or another similar field, preferred.

"tInvolvement in school-related activities, wellness programs or sports/fitness helpful but not

necessary.

"tAbility to work effectively with the general public and to interact in a non-judgmental culturally

sensitive manner with people of diverse cultures and lifestyles.

"tAbility to accept supervision and guidance.

"tAbility to organize and manage time.

"tAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.

"tAbility to keep and organize detailed records.

"tAbility to exercise patience, self-control and positivity.

"tProblem solving and conflict resolution skills.

"tAbility to follow written and verbal instructions.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

Requires daily use of recreation/sports equipment and arts and craft supplies.

Must have stamina to occasionally stand and walk for a minimum of six (6) hours.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
