Description Benefits Summary

The Summer Instructional Teacher will provide academic instruction and classroom support for the BGSU Upward Bound Summer Residential Learning Community. This federally funded program is designed to prepare first-generation and low-income high school students from Toledo, Ohio, for postsecondary education. Instructors will be responsible for teaching assigned core courses, serving as role models, and ensuring students have a structured and engaging learning experience.Career Readiness Competencies: Access & OpportunityLeadershipProfessionalism

Essential Functions

Teach assigned courses in one of the programs core subjects using a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Facilitate hands-on, inquiry-driven lessons that encourage students to collaborate, research, and develop real-world solutions to academic and practical challenges.

Provide classroom instruction and assistance, ensuring an engaging and supportive learning environment.

Serve as a positive role model for high school students, fostering a growth mindset and a love for learning.

Act as an administrative liaison, facilitating communication between participants and program administrators.

Ensure adherence to program policies and procedures, maintaining a safe and respectful classroom environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a bachelors degree in an academic discipline related to the assigned course.

Prior teaching or instructional experience is preferred.

Must possess strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage and motivate high school students.

Additional Information Available

Course Subjects: Core Academics: English, Math, Science, History STEM & Technology: Raspberry Pi, 3D Printing Foreign Languages: Spanish, American Sign Language (ASL), Japanese

Position Type: Seasonal (6-week Summer Program)

Compensation: $1,500 per class taught

Location: Bowling Green State University (BGSU)
