Overview:

PenFed is hiring a Summer Intern Event Coordinator to work onsite at our Tysons, Virginia location. We are seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and motivated Event Coordinator Intern to support the planning and execution of corporate and community events this summer. This short-term project will offer hands-on experience in event logistics, vendor coordination, marketing support, and on-site event management while working alongside an experienced events team. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, professional, creative, and interested in pursuing a career in event management, hospitality, marketing, or communications.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planning and coordinating corporate, community, and special events.
  • Support event logistics including registrations, timelines, signage, and guest communications.
  • Coordinate with vendors, venues, and internal departments.
  • Help prepare event materials, sponsorship items, and attendee packets.
  • Track RSVPs and maintain event databases.
  • Provide on-site event support including setup, registration, guest services, and breakdown.
  • Perform general administrative support for the events team.

*This role is responsible for ensuring business continuity.*

Qualifications:

Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered.

  • Currently enrolled in or a graduate of college or university. Preferred majors include Hospitality Management, Communications, Marketing, Business, Public Relations or closely related field.
  • Interest in event planning, hospitality, and community out reach.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Flexible schedule with occasional evening or event-day availability.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift and transport light event materials when needed.
  • Experience using automation or A.I. tools.

This position will not supervise employees

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise.
