Development Goals:
Throughout this internship, we hope to make you more familiar with ground improvement, geotechnical contracting, and general construction practices. The best avenue for achieving these development goals is through the estimating/preconstruction phase of our project lifecycle. We hope to impart the following skills to the best of our ability:
• Ground improvement analytical software use (StoneC, Settle3, Cliq, CPeT-IT, etc.)
• How to estimate quantities and pricing, as well as write formal proposals for ground improvement opportunities.
• Finding bid opportunities through bidding platforms.
• Fundamentals of ground improvement design.
• Fundamentals of ground improvement operations (installation methods and their impacts on design/analytics, etc.).
• Ground improvement load testing (modulus, plate, rapid load, and other testing).
• Basics of geotechnical exploration, and optimal exploration methods for ground improvement projects.
• Participation in weekly meetings with preconstruction and project management staff to discuss bids and projects. Intern Responsibilities:
• Checking estimating email inbox and downloading files for potential bids.
• Ensure pertinent information is provided in bid invite, promptly requesting any necessary information not provided (geotechnical report, CPT 'raw' data, structural loads, etc.).
• Estimating quantities (with CAD when applicable), requesting stone quotes, compiling geotechnical analysis, performing settlement/stability calculations, and writing proposals
• Preparing bids alongside other estimators.
• Assisting project engineers with preconstruction and project management.
• Assisting with ground improvement designs (preliminary pier layout, CAD files, report).
• Completing general contractor prequalifications with assistance from other staff.
• Visiting project sites with project engineers to observe methods and testing.
• Assist project engineers with tracking project progress and performance metrics.
