Job Summary

Caltech''s Office of Communications and External Relations (OCER) is responsible for promoting understanding, inspiring support, and amplifying awareness of the Institute's research, people, accomplishments, and impact across print and digital platforms as well as through events.

Working on the Strategy and Community Engagement team, the Summer Marketing and Communications intern assists in planning and executing marketing initiatives, including developing web, social, and other content to promote and support campus events.

The successful candidate will report to the Public Events Manager and will join a team that prizes creativity, enterprise, attention-to-detail, and collaboration.

Job Duties

  • Update and create content for community calendar listings, newsletters, event programs, and other channels.
  • Participate in developing marketing and communications plans for special events and series.
  • Assist the Multimedia Content, Communications, and Marketing specialists in creating videos and graphics for social media
  • Provide event support as needed

Basic Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a degree program in marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field
  • Ability to write and communicate ideas with creativity, clarity, and confidence
  • Comfort in prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines
  • Familiarity with web content management systems, social media platforms, and graphic design tools, such as Canva, and/or Adobe Express
  • Interest in creative problem-solving
  • An appreciation for science and the wonders of the world
