Job Summary

The UVEX Research Group in the Division of Physics, Mathematics & Astronomy is seeking a summer student assistant to provide general laboratory, organizational, and project support for activities related to the Ultraviolet Explorer (UVEX) mission and associated astrophysics research. The student will assist with laboratory organization, data entry, documentation, inventory tracking, and administrative support for research and engineering activities in a collaborative scientific environment. UVEX is a Caltech-led NASA mission focused on ultraviolet observations of the dynamic universe.

Essential Job Duties

  • Assist with laboratory organization and maintenance, including tracking supplies and equipment
  • Support data entry, file organization, and project documentation activities
  • Assist with preparation, organization, and cataloging of research materials and records
  • Help maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and equipment
  • Assist with special projects related to laboratory operations and mission support

Basic Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent high school graduate enrolled in college
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and follow directions in a research environment
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office or Google Workspace tools
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in an academic setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in science, engineering, astronomy, physics, or space research
