Job Title: Temporary Worker 0719 Reports to: Campus Principal or Department Supervisor Dept.: Campus Multiple Campus or Department Locations Duty Days: Temporary Part-Time: As Assigned Date Revised: 08/20/24

Primary Purpose To provide work on a temporary basis to a campus or a department. Temporary employment may be required during peak workloads when additional assistance is needed for a special project, for seasonal work, or for emergency situations. Job Summaries for Temporary Services

  • EDT 1 General Labor

  • Performs a variety of unskilled labor tasks such as removing debris and litter, cleaning, loading and unloading, operating various types of equipment, etc.

  • Examples: Warehouse worker, summer maintenance worker.

  • Salary Range: $15.00 - $18.00/hour (dependent upon experience).

  • EDT 2 Clerical

  • Responsible for recording and retrieving data and/or information and other paperwork and managing and answering telephones required in an office.

  • Examples: Receptionist, extra office help, scanning and filing documents.

  • Salary Range: $15.00 - $18.00/hour (dependent upon experience).

  • EDT 3 Paraprofessional

  • Responsible for some of the duties of a professional or technician in a supportive role working with students. Requires less formal education and/or experience normally required for the professional or technical status.

  • Examples: Instructional paraprofessionals, AVID Tutors.

  • Salary Range: $15.00 - $20.00/hour (dependent upon experience).

  • EDT 4 Craft/Technician

  • Responsible for work requiring specialized manual or mechanical skills or training acquired through licensure or on-the-job training and/or work requiring basic scientific or technical knowledge and manual skills obtained through specialized post-secondary education or equivalent on-the-job training.

  • Examples: Manual skills not requiring licensure, or manual skills that require licensure/certification.

  • Salary Range: $18.00 - $30.00/hour (dependent upon experience).

  • EDT 5 Professional

  • Work requiring professional preparation, work requiring specialized or theoretical knowledge which is usually acquired through a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction, or work that requires supervision of 2 or more employees in a professional setting.

  • Examples: Comp Ed Tutoring, Nursing, Curriculum Writing, GT Testing, Screen Team, Counselors, Assistant Principal.

  • Salary Range: $25.00 - $50.00/hour (dependent upon experience).

Qualifications Dependent upon Temporary Position:

  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
  • Proficient keyboarding skills.
  • Effective organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow written instructions.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to operate a multi-line phone system.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Current NISD High School Junior/Senior students preferred for certain temporary work.

Equipment Used Dependent upon Temporary Position:

  • Small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools.
  • Light truck or van.

Posture Frequent standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and twisting.

Motion Frequent walking, climbing stairs, ladders, scaffolding, grasping, squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving.

Lifting Heavy lifting and carrying 45 pounds and over on a daily basis.

Environment Work outside and inside on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals, and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards. Work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent district-wide travel.

Mental Demands Maintain emotional control under stress.

  • May require standing for long periods of time.
  • Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.

  • The position requires frequent bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, overhead reaching, prolonged sitting, and keyboarding.
