Quikrete Heavy Construction is seeking an experienced Superintendent to oversee field operations for asphalt paving, underground wet utilities, and excavation work across municipal, DOT, and private infrastructure projects in Southwest Colorado. This role is responsible for leading multiple crews and subcontractors, coordinating equipment and materials, and delivering projects safely, on schedule, and within budget in challenging mountain and high-altitude environments.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations for asphalt paving and surface restoration.
- Direct underground wet utility work including water, sewer, and storm drainage.
- Manage mass excavation, grading, and site development activities.
- Plan and coordinate manpower, equipment, trucking, and materials.
- Sequence work efficiently between underground, backfill, base, and paving operations.
- Ensure work complies with project plans, specifications, and CDOT and municipal standards.
- Underground Utilities & Excavation
- Direct installation of water, sanitary sewer, and storm drainage systems.
- Oversee trenching, shoring, dewatering, bedding, pipe installation, and backfill.
- Ensure proper testing, inspections, and system tie-ins.
- Coordinate utility conflicts, locates, and traffic control.
- Monitor grades, slopes, compaction, and erosion control measures.
- Asphalt Operations
- Oversee asphalt paving, compaction, and finishing operations.
- Coordinate asphalt plant production, trucking, and paving crews.
- Ensure proper mix placement, temperatures, densities, and surface tolerances.
- Manage smooth transitions between underground work and final paving.
- Leadership & Crew Management
- Supervise foremen, operators, laborers, and subcontractors.
- Set clear expectations for safety, productivity, and quality.
- Train and mentor foremen and emerging leaders.
- Maintain accountability and a strong, respectful jobsite culture.
- Safety & Compliance
- Enforce OSHA and company safety policies.
- Conduct daily safety meetings and job hazard analyses.
- Ensure trench safety, confined space, and excavation compliance.
- Lead by example with a safety-first mindset.
- Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with Project Managers, Estimators, and Inspectors.
- Coordinate with municipalities, utilities, engineers, and owner representatives.
- Maintain accurate daily reports on production, manpower, equipment, and jobsite issues.
- Equipment & Production Oversight
- Oversee heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, dozers, and graders.
- Manage trenchers, compactors, and other support equipment.
- Oversee asphalt pavers, rollers, and milling equipment.
- Identify equipment needs and maintenance issues proactively.
- Cost, Schedule & Performance
- Monitor production rates and support cost control initiatives.
- Assist Project Management with forecasting and scheduling.
- Identify and resolve field issues before they impact schedule or budget.
Qualifications
- Three or more years of heavy civil construction experience.
- Proven experience supervising asphalt, underground utility, and excavation crews.
- Strong understanding of wet utilities, trenching, and compaction requirements.
- Experience working under CDOT and municipal specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret plans, profiles, and utility drawings.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
