Job Title: Construction Superintendent
Job Description
The Construction Superintendent is responsible for the on-site management and execution of commercial construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, meet all quality expectations, and are delivered on time. This role oversees all field operations, coordinates closely with trade partners, and ensures strict compliance with project plans, specifications, and contracts. The Superintendent partners with the Project Manager to meet client expectations while upholding core values of integrity, fairness, continuous improvement, and results.
Responsibilities
- Lead all on-site construction activities from preconstruction through project closeout, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in accordance with quality standards and contract documents.
- Provide direct leadership to the field team by clearly defining roles, creating healthy accountability, and promoting positive morale and strong team dynamics.
- Actively support the training and development of field team members, maintaining a growth mindset and identifying opportunities for continuous learning.
- Participate in preconstruction efforts by performing constructability reviews, contributing to logistics planning, assisting with schedule development, and helping define trade scopes.
- Own the development of the detailed baseline project schedule and use it as the primary planning tool for the duration of the project.
- Update the project schedule on a weekly basis, document all changes, and communicate schedule impacts to the project team and stakeholders.
- Lead implementation of the Last Planner System on the project to drive continuous improvement, accountability, and reliable workflow in support of the project schedule.
- Engage in new project planning at least 60 days prior to start, and participate in the buy-out phase by reviewing and commenting on trade partner scope attachments developed by the Project Manager within established timeframes.
- Develop, implement, and continuously refine the project logistics plan, adjusting it as needed to support safe, efficient, and organized field operations.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the owner contract, trade partner agreements, basis of estimate, and all project documents to ensure compliance and effective field execution.
- Use project management and construction technology software tools such as Procore, Microsoft Project, Predictive Solutions, Bluebeam, OPEX, and Touchplan, and train field team members on their use as necessary.
- Proactively communicate field changes and potential impacts to the Project Manager to ensure proper financial accounting and protect project fee and profitability.
- Encourage field staff to identify and implement improved means and methods of construction that enhance profitability, quality, and schedule performance.
- Serve as an advocate for construction technology and virtual design and construction (VDC) teams by understanding, implementing, and promoting their services to improve project outcomes and highlight innovative capabilities to clients.
- Lead the creation, implementation, and ongoing review of project-specific safety and quality programs, ensuring the entire project team maintains a high level of awareness and adherence.
- Take full ownership of safety, quality, and schedule results on the project, driving proactive planning and corrective actions as needed.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with owners, designers, consultants, trade partners, material suppliers, inspectors, and internal staff through clear, regular, and professional communication.
- Participate in owner-architect-contractor (OAC) meetings to provide updates, seek direction, and support timely decision-making that keeps the project on schedule.
- Lead and participate in coordination meetings to promote collaboration, proper planning, and efficient execution of work in the field.
- Manage project risk by adhering to company policies and procedures and maintaining proactive communication with the Project Manager regarding issues, constraints, and opportunities.
- Drive the field team toward an expedited project closeout, ensuring all field work, including punch list items, is completed within 30 days of substantial completion whenever possible.
- Participate in monthly performance and cost reviews, including PSR and CSR discussions, through proactive preparation and consistent management of OPEX tools and metrics.
- Set up and maintain a professional, clean, and organized jobsite office and work environment, including appropriate display of project plans, graphics, and informational materials.
- Champion the project team by modeling strong leadership, reinforcing company values, and fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and results.
Essential Skills
- Proven construction field management experience overseeing commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Demonstrated ability to own and manage project schedules, including development of baseline schedules and weekly updates.
- Strong safety management experience with a high level of accountability for jobsite safety outcomes.
- Hands-on experience managing project-specific quality programs and ensuring adherence to specifications and standards.
- Proficiency in coordinating multiple trade partners and subcontractors simultaneously on active construction sites.
- Experience conducting constructability reviews, preconstruction planning, and logistics planning for complex projects.
- Ability to develop and maintain detailed project logistics plans and adjust them to support changing site conditions.
- Experience implementing and managing the Last Planner System or similar lean construction planning tools.
- Strong communication skills for effectively partnering with Project Managers, owners, designers, trade partners, and field teams.
- Proficiency with construction technology platforms such as Procore, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, Touchplan, Predictive Solutions, and OPEX.
- Demonstrated ability to manage change in the field and communicate potential financial and schedule impacts to project leadership.
- Strong leadership and field decision-making skills, with the ability to create accountability and maintain positive team morale.
- Proven track record of managing safety, schedule, and quality outcomes on ground-up or commercial construction projects.
- Ability to work 100% on construction job sites in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with commercial ground-up construction projects is preferred.
- Familiarity with VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) and construction technology tools and workflows.
- OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.
- Experience participating in owner-architect-contractor (OAC) meetings and other coordination meetings.
- Comfort using digital tools and platforms for scheduling, documentation, and field communication.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain a clean, professional, and well-structured jobsite office.

Pay and Benefits
