Job Title: Construction Superintendent - Healthcare Projects

Job Description

The Construction Superintendent oversees all daily activities on healthcare construction projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within scope, and to high quality standards. This on-site leader coordinates field operations, manages subcontractors and trades, and serves as the primary point of contact between the project team and the client for a healthcare facility project converting an emergency room into a micro hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily on-site construction activities and coordinate subcontractors and trades to keep the project on schedule and within scope.
  • Lead field crews and ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans, specifications, and quality expectations.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project schedules to guide field operations and sequencing of work.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures on the jobsite and conduct daily toolbox talks to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Coordinate required inspections with relevant parties and maintain rigorous quality control standards throughout all phases of construction.
  • Order materials, schedule deliveries, and manage on-site inventory to support project timelines and minimize delays.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, project documentation, and as-built drawings to ensure thorough project records and compliance.
  • Communicate project progress, issues, and updates regularly with project managers, clients, and design teams to support alignment and timely decision-making.
  • Monitor construction schedules closely and proactively address potential delays, weather impacts, or project changes to keep work on track.
  • Manage multiple projects and jobsite priorities simultaneously, balancing resources and schedules across assignments as needed.

Essential Skills

  • 10+ years of experience as a superintendent or in a similar role in construction
  • Proven healthcare construction experience, including work on hospital, emergency room, or other medical facility projects.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply construction drawings, specifications, and project schedules in a field environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience directing field crews, subcontractors, and trades on active construction sites.
  • Demonstrated experience enforcing safety policies and conducting daily safety meetings or toolbox talks.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with project managers, clients, and design teams and reporting project status.
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate daily reports, documentation, and as-built drawings.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects or jobsite priorities at the same time while maintaining quality and schedule.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Healthcare project experience specifically related to construction and renovation of medical facilities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Alternatively, 15+ years of relevant construction experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Experience working within a design-build construction environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate and mitigate schedule impacts due to weather or project changes.
  • Experience coordinating inspections and implementing quality control processes on complex projects.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with clients, design teams, and subcontractors.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare construction projects.

Work Environment

This role is based on an active project site in Laredo, Texas, focused on converting an existing emergency room into a micro hospital. The Superintendent works primarily on-site, overseeing field operations in a dynamic healthcare construction environment. The project follows a design-build approach, involving close collaboration with project managers, design teams, and subcontractors. The work setting includes typical construction site conditions, such as exposure to weather, noise, and ongoing trade activities, and requires adherence to safety protocols and use of appropriate personal protective equipment. The position offers a travel stipend to support working at the project location.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Laredo, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $48.07 - $60.09/hr.
